Well, it made my wife laugh, anyway

I was talking to this guy on the radio about doing tcp/ip via amateur radio, and we were talking about the kissattach utility (this is the software layer that interfaces the terminal node controller ["modem"-like thingy that connects to the radio] to the linux networking code.) I said to him "This looks like some older networking code that determines the netmask from the first octet of the address."

Silence for two beats from the other side. After which I couldn't hear what he was saying because my sweety was laughing so hard.

Well, I thought he could keep up...he *does* teach math at UW...
