I spent a couple of hours at DA_PUB working on a cover letter. i'll not post that here. I will, however, share with you the thoughts that distracted me from that work.

1. I want to be Mr. Ollivander, the guy who sells magic wands in Diagon Alley. Really, I'd like to have a slide rule shop. It would look much the same as Ollivander's.

2. When I was a kid, the longest word available in english was antidisestablishmentarianism. (Note: my spell checker has approved that word.)

All the kids asked me, "Is that longer than 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious?'" I replied, "Say whut?" I've still yet to see Mary Poppins. Note: my spell checker does not approve.

Lucky for me, a longer word popped up in Webster's Third Edition: pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. *PHEW* (My spellchecker does not approve, however.)

3. When Alexander the Great was my age...he'd been dead 8 years.

4. An outline map of Washington, Oregon and Idaho depicting all Interstate highways that I can recall to mind. I think I got them all. 5 (OR, WA), 105 (OR), 205 (OR, WA), 405 (OR), 405 (WA), 705 (WA), 15 (ID), 82 (OR, WA), 182 (WA), 84 (ID, OR), 184 (ID), 90 (ID, WA). Did I miss any? Worse, did I make up any?

5. The time is 23:56:28. We have entered that part of the day between the earth's full rotation and midnight; the part of the day where we compensate for the fact that we revolve around something bigger than we are.

6. A visual image of a place that no longer exists. The Lipman, Wolfe and Co. department store in downtown Portland, Oregon. The cafe on the mezzanine. The "Angel Pie" (their name for their lemon meringue pie). (Mom worked there, and let me use her "house employee" card to get a discount.)
